WWF supports sustainable fishing and good governance in regions like the Arctic, the Indian Ocean, the Pacific, the Southern Cone, and the high seas. Their efforts focus on reducing the impact of fishing on the world’s most ecologically important marine ecoregions and conserving valuable species such as tuna and whitefish. ECMU & Associates is pleased to present its certification, aimed at establishing proper fisheries management and promoting technological advances like the Automatic Identification System (AIS) to increase transparency in fishing operations. It also seeks to create sustainable market incentives, encouraging fishers, processors, buyers, and retailers to commit to certified fisheries and trade seafood products traceable to their origin. The goal is to ensure funds are well-invested to protect livelihoods and support long-term fisheries recovery.

The Southern Shrimp Alliance (SSA) brings together shrimp fishermen, processors, and other members of the domestic industry from eight warmwater shrimp-producing states: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Texas. Since its founding in 2002, the SSA has worked to protect the strength and future of the U.S. shrimp industry. American shrimpers face tough challenges from cheap, unfairly traded imports, as the U.S. has become a dumping ground for shrimp rejected by other major seafood-importing countries. On top of that, proposed fishing restrictions and rising business costs add to the pressure. The SSA is dedicated to keeping one of the nation’s most valuable fisheries thriving, a resource that has long been a cornerstone of the economy and culture in coastal communities across the Gulf and Southeast.

Fairtrade is about better prices, decent working conditions, local sustainability, and fair terms of trade for farmers and workers in the developing world.
